News and Knowledge

OAR’s Conference-on-the-Road program, now in its seventh and final year, allows OAR to partner with and sponsor selected autism organizations to help bring the most current information about autism to individuals across the United States. OAR lends a hand by providing financial support, informational resources, and access to nationally recognized speakers for selected conferences throughout the country.

In April, OAR exhibited at two conferences.

Fairfax County Public Schools’ 11th Annual Special Education Conference

On April 1, more than 1,300 people attended this year’s Fairfax Country Public Schools’ Special Education Conference, which included 85 exhibitors and more than 60 workshop opportunities. The one-day event featured a keynote address from Nancy Mather, Ph.D., who discussed the issues that affect the identification of students who struggle with reading.

OAR delivered over 100 resources to attendees and gained 30 newsletter subscribers.

The Special Education Conference continues to be an outstanding opportunity to connect with and support OAR’s local community in Northern Virginia.

Autism Society of Wisconsin’s 27th Annual Conference

More than 750 people attended the Autism Society of Wisconsin’s 28th annual conference at the end of April. The conference featured over 40 breakout sessions and more than 50 exhibitors.

OAR delivered over 1,000 resources to attendees and gained 25 newsletter subscribers.

The Autism Society of Wisconsin continues to be an excellent partner with OAR in serving the needs of the autism community in the state of Wisconsin. OAR plans to continue its outreach efforts in the area in the future.

Looking Ahead

This month, OAR will be supporting the Milestones Autism Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. The conference, to be held from June 14 to 16, regularly attracts 1,000 or more parents, educators, leaders, self-advocates, professionals, and scholars to share information and solutions that address common concerns and challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum.
