Training

OAR is excited to partner with the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) again this year, offering RUN FOR AUTISM-Chicago team members the opportunity to train with knowledgeable CARA coaches and staff. Since its start in 1989, CARA has helped more than 25,000 runners complete the 26.2 mile course of the Chicago Marathon and other fall races. They've helped thousands of aspiring marathoners and seasoned veterans make it to the finish line. OAR will cover the costs of the 18-week training marathon program for any RUN FOR AUTISM participants who commits to raising a minimum of $600.

To register, fill out the Marathon Training Form.

Fundraising

Participants who purchased their entry through OAR before February 14th agree to a fundraising minimum of $600. Those who purchase entry to the race through OAR after the race sold out have a fundraising minimum of $950. OAR requires participants who purchased registration through the official Bank of America Chicago Marathon website to raise $250. Regardless of registration type, all OAR runners will receive a fundraising agreement, which they must complete and return to OAR staff. Runners purchasing entry through OAR will NOT be registered until the completed fundraising agreement has been returned.

OAR encourages all runners to set a fundraising goal of at least $1250.

Why Run for Autism?

Raise money for autism research - More than $.84 of every dollar you raise will directly fund research studies that help answer some of autism’s most pressing questions. Since its inception in 2003, the RUN FOR AUTISM has raised more than $3.1 million for applied autism research.

The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) is a national, nonprofit organization formed and led by relatives of children and adults with autism and Asperger Syndrome. OAR is dedicated to promoting research that can be applied to help families, educators, caregivers, and individuals with autism find much-needed answers to their immediate and urgent questions. Committed to the excellence in its services to the autism community, OAR funds applied research that will make a difference in individual lives; provides information that is timely, useful, and cost-efficient; and offers opportunities for the autism community to collaborate and make advances together.

Whether you are a runner, walker, donor or volunteer, your contribution makes you part of OAR’s RUN FOR AUTISM team.

In the end, you will have made a difference in the lives of thousands of families living with autism.
