How to Join the Team
1. Use one of OAR's charity entries. If you are not interested in entering the lottery and just want to secure your race entry now, OR if you find out that you did not receive an entry through the lottery, you can use one of OAR's non-complimentary guaranteed charity entries. You may register using an OAR charity entry by visiting www.firstgiving.com/oar/2012nychalf, clicking "Join Now", and choosing the "Need Race Entry" option. Runners using an OAR entry must commit to a $1,000 fundraising minimum, as required by the NYRR, and will be sent a fundraising agreement form to complete their team registration. They will then be sent a link where they can register for the race as a charity participant (when the NYRR charity registration module opens). Runners using an OAR entry will still be required to purchase their own race entry.
2. Lottery Entry: We encourage all interested participants who have not done the 4/5 Guaranteed Entry Program to enter the lottery through NYRR here. The lottery will be open through Monday, December 19, with results being announced shortly after closing. Runners who secure their own race entry through the lottery may join the RUN FOR AUTISM team by visiting www.firstgiving.com/oar/2012nychalf, clicking "Join Now", and choosing the "Have Race Entry" option. Runners who have secured their own entry will be asked to commit to a $250 fundraising minimum and will be sent a fundraising agreement form to complete their team registration. Want a back-up in case you don't get in through the lottery? Email Chelsea at run@researchautism.org to be added to our list of runners who need one of our charity entries. Space is limited.
3. NYRR 4/5 Guaranteed Entry Program: Any NYRR member as of January 31, 2011, who completes four of the five NYRR Half-Marathon Series races in 2011 (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island) will be eligible for guaranteed entry to the 2012 race. See the NYRR website for details. If you have secured a race entry through the 4/5 Guaranteed Entry Program and would like to join the RUN FOR AUTISM team, visit www.firstgiving.com/oar/2012nychalf, click "Join Now", and choose the "Have Race Entry" option. Runners who have secured their own entry will be asked to commit to a $250 fundraising minimum and will be sent a fundraising agreement form to complete their team registration.

Fundraising
The New York Road Runners (NYRR) requires all charity runners who do not receive entry through the lottery to raise at least $1,000. By signing up with one of OAR's very limited number of entries, you agree to raise this amount by April 18, 2012 or 30 days after the race or have your credit card charged for any remaining balance at that time.
Participants who receive entry to the race through the lottery commit to raising $250 by April 18, 2012 or 30 days after the race.
RUN FOR AUTISM participants historically average raising between $1,750 and $2,000. Runners who raise $2,500 or more receive a special incentive.
OAR encourages all runners to set a fundraising goal of at least $1250.

Why RUN FOR AUTISM?
Raise money for autism research - More than $.84 of every dollar you raise will directly fund research studies that help answer some of autism’s most pressing questions. Since its inception in 2001, the RUN FOR AUTISM has raised more than $3.1 million for applied autism research.
The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) is a national, nonprofit organization formed and led by relatives of children and adults with autism and Asperger Syndrome. OAR is dedicated to promoting research that can be applied to help families, educators, caregivers, and individuals with autism find much-needed answers to their immediate and urgent questions. Committed to the excellence in its services to the autism community, OAR funds applied research that will make a difference in individual lives; provides information that is timely, useful, and cost-efficient; and offers opportunities for the autism community to collaborate and make advances together.
Whether you are a runner, walker, donor or volunteer, your contribution makes you part of OAR’s RUN FOR AUTISM team.
In the end, you will have made a difference in the lives of thousands of families living with autism.
